Snow Plowing, Snow Removal, and Road Salting

We have a plowing contract in place. We're a bit at the mercy of mere physics.

There are three main influences here:

  1. We aren't the only client: Our plowing contractor has a lot of other contracts. All of their contracts follow similar rules of snow fall. Once snowfall occurs across a certain amount of time, they deploy their plows in order. We may our plowing done in the afternoon.
  2. We're limited by $ and balancing those who don't want more plowing. To get it plowed no matter what would increase our charge by about 6x this year, which we can't financially do. The Board personally supports more plowing since some have kiddos who go to school. Many in the community have voiced opposition to increasing plow and salt fees by as dramatic amount, so we're balancing the demand.
  3. Erratic weather and our neighborhood: the plowing contractor does maintain good situational awareness on snowfall but when we get snow that is not predicted, they have to redirect their teams and call people in. Also, we are higher in elevation, we get more snowfall than the entire surrounding area. So we will naturally get more snowfall than neighborhoods at lower elevation.

We're doing our best and I've personally called the contractor to come out before school starts and we've nearly doubled the snow plow from last year.

I hope that helps and I will keep your feedback and it will be on my mind to increase plowing in the area as much as possible.

For driveways, each resident is responsible for plowing their own entryways. Additionally, snow plowing requires higher rates of speed by the plowing vehicle in order to "throw" the snow off the road. This means snow may block your driveway even after you just shoveled it.
